How to Calm Your Mind When You Feel Overwhelmed

There are moments when everything feels like too much.

Your mind is racing. You can’t switch off — even when you try.

You might be lying in bed at night…
or in the middle of your day…

And your mind won’t slow down.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

🧠 What’s Actually Happening

When you feel overwhelmed, your mind is overloaded.

It’s trying to process:

  • Everything you need to do

  • Everything you haven’t done

  • Everything that might happen

And without a pause, it keeps going.

The more your mind races,
The harder it becomes to feel calm.

🌿 The First Thing to Understand

You don’t need to fix everything.

You don’t need to stop all your thoughts.

You just need a moment to pause.

Even a small pause can begin to change how you feel.

✨ A Simple 3-Minute Reset You Can Do Anywhere

When your mind feels overwhelmed, try this:

🌬️ Step 1: Slow your breathing (1 minute)

Inhale through your nose for 4
Exhale slowly through your mouth for 6

Do this gently for one minute.

No pressure — just slow it down.

🧘‍♀️ Step 2: Bring attention to your body (1 minute)

Notice:

  • Your feet on the ground

  • Your hands resting

  • Your shoulders

Let your body soften slightly.

💭 Step 3: Notice your thoughts (1 minute)

Instead of fighting your thoughts:

Just notice them.

Let them come and go.

You don’t need to follow them.

🧠 Why This Works

This simple practice helps you:

  • Slow your mind down

  • Come back to the present moment

  • Create space between you and your thoughts

And even a small shift can help you feel calmer.

🧘‍♀️Where Meditation Comes In

In my work and training in meditation, I’ve seen that most people don’t need complicated techniques.

They need a simple way to pause — and come back to themselves.

That’s what meditation helps you practice.

Not stopping your thoughts

—But learning how to step back from them.

✨ What Starts to Change Over Time

With regular practice, something deeper begins to shift.

You start to notice patterns.

The same thoughts.
The same reactions.

And instead of being carried by them,
You begin to see them.

You create space.

And in that space, you feel calmer.

✨ What Matters Most

You don’t need to feel completely calm straight away.

Even a small shift matters.

A slower breath.
A moment of awareness.
A pause.

That’s where it begins.

If you often feel like your mind won’t switch off, this is exactly what I help with.
